An evaluation of the GoodSAM volunteer first-responder app for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in two UK ambulance services

      Introduction: Bystander CPR and defibrillation can double survival to hospital discharge in out-of- hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). Using mobile phone apps to alert nearby volunteer first-responders about an OHCA during an emergency (999) call could potentially improve bystander CPR and defibrillation before Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrive, and might improve patient outcomes. In the UK, many ambulance services provide such alerts via the GoodSAM app.
